In case you were wondering, I'm still very much obsessed with dickinson. Clearly.
I was listening to this (freakin' masterpiece of an) album and when this song came on, those first lyrics "I don't know why / I just feel I'm better off / staying in the same room I was born in" in my dickinson filled brain *screamed* Emily. Not to mention I remembered Austin yelling "not today!" at her in the season finale and that selead the deal. And the rest of the song is pretty fitting too, imo. That second verse about the song being happy and the lyrics being sad - that's also pretty representative of the show, I think, as it uses colourful sets and costumes and a lot of comedy but also deals with some pretty heavy topics.
I don't know if you're familiar with this album but basically Tyler Joseph, the singer/songwriter, is talking to his own fears and insecurities as if they're another presence in his mind and that fits not only Emily's character herself but the whole show's themes. She is constantly fighting both with her inner fears and her outside obstacles, which are mostly her family, mainly her father but often her brother and mother as well.
I finished rewatch number two recently - I shall try and at least wait for the official season 2 date before the third one but no promises - and I have to say I fell in love with Emily even more. After first watching the show I have to admit Sue was my favourite, I still really love her (I'd actually started a video about her after watch n1), she has such a complex history and the way she has to bottle everything up and always control what she does and says contrary to Emily who just follows her heart is so interesting to me. I just really love and appreciate these two leading ladies immensly. I have always had a soft spot for Hailee Steinfeld, ever since watching True Grit and she's actually the reason I checked out this show and I'm so glad I did!
Expect a Sue video in the future maybe? I can't even remember the last time I vidded the same show twice in a row.
